Sri Lanka Railways is set to resume main line train services up to Gampola from Thursday, October 2, 2026, following the completion of repair work on the railway line.
According to the new schedule, several daily trains will operate between Colombo Fort, Peradeniya Junction and Gampola, giving passengers more options for travelling between Colombo and the hill country.
Colombo Fort to Gampola / Peradeniya
5:55 am – Colombo Fort to Gampola, arriving at 9:06 am (Train 1005)
3:35 pm – Colombo Fort to Peradeniya Junction, arriving at 5:57 pm (Train 1029 – Intercity Express)
4:35 pm – Colombo Fort to Gampola, arriving at 7:51 pm (Train 1035)
5:15 pm – Colombo Fort to Peradeniya Junction, arriving at 7:53 pm (Train 1037)
Gampola / Peradeniya to Colombo Fort
4:35 am – Gampola to Colombo Fort, arriving at 8:06 am (Train 1040)
4:40 am – Peradeniya Junction to Colombo Fort, arriving at 7:12 am (Train 1038)
6:25 am – Peradeniya Junction to Colombo Fort, arriving at 8:45 am (Train 1030 – Intercity Express)
4:10 pm – Gampola to Colombo Fort, arriving at 7:23 pm (Train 1006)
The restoration of these services is expected to make travelling between Colombo and the hill country more convenient for daily commuters and other passengers.
